Hit and run results in Okeechobee man’s arrest

An Okeechobee man was arrested and placed behind bars after reportedly trying to plow over a group of people.

On May 17, 2020, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Hardee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Appaloosa Lane in Wauchula, FL, in reference to a disturbance in progress. While in route, deputies observed a vehicle matching the description headed south on N. Hollandtown Road in Hardee County. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle in question and the driver, identified as Cory Pethybridge from Okeechobee, was detained for further investigation.

During the investigation, deputies spoke with witnesses who relayed Pethybridge was intoxicated and began arguing and fighting with others on scene. When Pethybridge left the residence, he drove over a barbed wire fence, and when deputies stopped him, there was a fence post and barbed wire hanging off his vehicle. Three victims sustained injuries and one was reportedly run over by Pethybridge. EMS / Fire Rescue arrived and provided medical attention.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Cory Pethybridge was arrested, transported to the Hardee County Jail, and charged with Battery, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Hit and Run / Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage with Injury.
