HCSO Drug Task Force investigation lands felon 40-year prison sentence

A Wauchula man was recently sentenced to nearly 41 years of incarceration on February 12, 2020, for drug-related charges.

On March 6, 2019, members of the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force, S.W.A.T. Team and Criminal Investigations Unit executed a successful search warrant at 694 Honeysuckle Street in Wauchula, Fl.

Prior to the search, investigators had received information that Marcel Melton was in possession of illegal drugs on the property, and after searching, law enforcement located a large amount of methamphetamine, synthetic marijuana and narcotic equipment.

On February 12, 2020, Melton was found guilty by a jury trial on the charges of trafficking methamphetamine in excess of 28 grams, trafficking in synthetic cannabinoids in excess of 280 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Melton received consecutive sentences of 20 years Florida State Prison for trafficking methamphetamine, 20 years Florida State Prison for trafficking synthetic cannabinoids and 270 days county jail for possession of drug equipment.

Over the past 20 years, Marcel Melton has been arrested 35 times in Hardee County for various criminal offenses.
