A traffic stop in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and South Road in Wauchula resulted in deputies locating various amounts of methamphetamine, drug equipment, prescription drugs and suspected LSD.
On April 2, 2019 around 11:30 a.m., Deputy Sheriff DeDominicis conducted a traffic stop at 1308 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue on a vehicle that failed to stop at a posted stop sign in the area. The driver was identified as Russell Watters and the passenger as Jose Vasquez, who was acting suspiciously nervous when asked if there were any drugs or weapons in the vehicle and stated no, even though his behavior suggested otherwise.
Sergeant McCoy shortly arrived on scene and his K-9 partner Bak alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle. Both deputies hand searched the vehicle and found methamphetamine, numerous amounts of drug equipment containing methamphetamine and Xanax pills. Several small tabs of perforated paper suspected of containing LSD were also found and are being sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for further testing. The located methamphetamine weighed approximately 10.7 grams with packaging.
Vasquez was booked into the Hardee County Jail and charged with possession of drugs without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine. This investigation is still active and additional charges are pending.
