Esmeralda Cruz, who was previously employed by Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, is being charged with felony counts of Grand Theft of $10,000 or more less than $20,000 and Fraud / Illegal Use of a Credit Card for making unauthorized transactions with the church’s credit card.

For the past two years, Cruz was employed by Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church as a secretary, in which she was issued a credit card to make purchases and pay bills for the church.

Trustees within the church noticed irregular charges on the church’s financial account and in reviewing credit card statements from June 1, 2018 to December 30, 2018, it was discovered there were approximately 125 transactions on the credit card issued to Cruz that were not church related purchases.

During an interview, Cruz admitted to using the credit card belonging to the church for personal expenses.
