On August 22, 2006 the Hardee County Inter Agency Drug Task Force began a three-day marijuana eradication operation. The Task Force was assisted by 2 pilots/spotters manning one helicopter from the United States Army Marijuana Eradication team. This operation was a success resulting in the seizure of cultivated marijuana plants at three different locations in Hardee County and the arrest of 2 adults. More arrests are expected. The Hardee County Sheriff’s Office typically conducts an aerial marijuana eradication operation once each year. However due to severe hurricane seasons this is the first operation since the summer of 2003.

On August 22, 2006 3 plants were located behind a residence on S.R. 62 east of Ft. Green Springs. The case is under investigation, arrests are expected.

On August 23, 2006 12 plants were located behind a residence on Golden Oaks Road approximately 3 miles south of the town of Zolfo Springs. The case is under investigation, arrests are expected.

On August 24, 2006 137 plants were located behind a residence on Friendship Lane approximately 3 miles southeast of the town of Zolfo Springs. Two arrests were made.
