What is Exploring?

Exploring Is:
1. A young adult program of The Boy Scouts of America, (Learning for Life).
2. Coed, for young men and women ages 14 through 20.
3. Very different from Scouting, focusing on careers and requiring less adult time than other scouting programs.
4. Run by community businesses, agencies, and organizations, usually specializing in that organization's career field.
5. A dynamic, flexible program designed to help community organizations serve youth.
The Goals of Exploring Are:
To develop desirable qualities of character, to train fro responsible citizenship and leadership, to develop physical and mental fitness, and to introduce them to adult careers.
Vocational:
1. A better understanding of America's social, economic and governmental systems.
2. Offer some insight and practical experience in careers.
Service:
1. Encourage the skill and desire to help others.
2. Gain respect for the basic rights of others.
Citizenship:
1. A sense of pride in our American heritage.
2. Preparation to give leadership and fulfill their responsibility to American society and the forums of the World.
Social:
1. Personal and stable values firmly based on religious concepts.
2. Skill in dealing with all people and a sense of family responsibility.
Personal Fitness:
1. Improvement of mental and emotional fitness.
2. Physical fitness and an appreciation for sports.
Outdoor:
1. A degree of self-reliance based on courage, initiative and resourcefulness.
2. An understanding and appreciation of the wise use of resources and the protection of our environment.
