The Detention
Facility has the capability to house 191 inmates. The Detention Facility houses inmates from local “overcrowded”
jails. The revenue generated from this
is placed into the county’s annual budget.
This is just another way the Sheriff’s Office gives back to the
community.
Our goal is to
provide a safe, non-threatening environment from every person we have contact
with.
Captain Rigney is responsible for the overall operations of the facility. Sixteen (16) Detention Deputies are divided into four (4) squads, each with a Shift Supervisor. These squads are assigned with the daily tasks of normal operations of the facility.
The Detention
Division has civilian support staff employees to augment its full-time
correction staff. These civilian employees operate as control room officers and
are responsible for
operation of the main control panels, checking criminal histories of all
arrestees, radio and telephone
communication for the Detention Division and monitoring the video surveillance
system. This allows
sworn Detention Officers to be utilized for more critical roles.

The Detention
Division is responsible for booking and detaining of all arrested persons in
the county, including those arrested by local, city police agencies.

Detention Deputies
strive to provide a facility where the public and arrested persons are greeted
with respect and understanding of their situation or needs. Each arrested person is given the opportunity
to make contact with a friend or family member to advise them that they have
been detained upon completion of the booking processes.
Arrested persons
housed with in the Detention Facility after being booked are provided with
personal hygiene items, bedding, linens and clothing. Arrested persons are housed based on their classification needs
awaiting First Appearance. Arrested
persons are usually seen for First Appearance with-in 24 hours after
arrest. Arrested persons are informed
of their First Appearance Hearing and those family members wishing to watch the
proceedings may due so from the lobby area of the Hardee County Sheriff’s
Office. Arrested persons attending
First Appearance are given their rights by the proceeding Judge, given the
opportunity to receive a bond if one was not provided during arrest and/or
request a reduction in bond.

The Detention
Facility has two (2) full-time medical staff members to assess and treat ill or
injured inmates. Inmates are charged
minimal fees for medication and medical treatments.

The Hardee County Sheriff's Office encourages family and
friend contact through our visitation
program. This contact should be beneficial to the arrested persons' overall
adjustment to their incarceration.
